Because someone is coming. Someone who has Emma in their sights. Someone who will turn her life upside down… forever.

Review - Thicker than Water by Georgia Rose

This is the third book in the Grayson Trilogy by British author Georgia Rose. Time has moved on at Melton Manor but the cast remain in place for the final adventure of Emma Grayson et al.

The title is inspired as readers will discover and the cover design, an intriguing hint of the backdrop for the plot, with the overriding theme being one of unconditional love.

The relationship between Emma and her main foil has evolved, leaving us in no doubt of their commitment and hopes for the future. Tissues again need to be at the ready as the emotionally-charged story unfolds.

Even when all appears to be calm and peaceful, the reader is made aware of a hint of unidentified menace at the end of each of the early chapters. We know that simmering just beneath the surface is a cauldron filled with danger.

Rose has used strong descriptive passages, along with alliteration, metaphors and humour to tell her tale. Many unexplained details from Emma’s previous experiences (which have been drip-fed through the earlier books) fall into place before the plot builds to a tumultuous climax. The calmer aftermath that follows is now becoming a trademark of Rose’s writing.

Before the story begins, Rose teases her audience with a promise of a surprise at the end. This little gem is written in the first person and the present tense which adds another dimension to the overall story, giving the reader additional insight and an alternative perspective. To gain maximum impact, it is definitely helpful to have read the first two novels.

I thoroughly enjoyed this work and Georgia Rose has again pulled out all the stops to give her fans an escapist adventure novel of high quality. It is extremely easy to read and the only sadness is that ‘Thicker than Water’ is the last book in the series.

I look forward to more from Ms Rose in the future and have no hesitation in awarding this novel a richly-deserved five stars.
