Clive’s Cumbrian Chronicles – Blog 1

Scene Setting

16 March 2016

Hello! Welcome to my walking posts from the Western Lakes this summer. For some background, I will go back a little to explain why and how we are here.

Lake District Walks

Julie and I first came to the Lake District in 2004 and although it rained all week we fell in love with the rugged beauty of the fells. We have visited nearly every year since, staying in mid-range hotels and spending every minute out walking.  The problem was that to make the most of the time we had to walk each and every day, regardless of the weather and our physical condition.  We always went home exhausted.

A few years back we had a dream of spending a longer period of time up here and that dream grew as retirement beckoned. Julie based her first novel ‘Long Shadows’ in Cumbria and indeed its prequel ‘Evil Echoes’ and that spurred us on the make the dream reality.

We had some concerns over the people that we were leaving behind but fortunately everybody we spoke to were encouraging. We are grateful for all the support we are receiving from family, friends and neighbours who are ensuring that our home and our parents are being well cared for.

Over the next few months I hope to bring you some of our walking highlights.

Sorry, have to run, the fells are calling …

Wishing you good luck with your move. My husband and I love the Lake District (in fact we’re going back in a week’s time.) If we miss a year, we start pining for it. I write fiction for women’s magazines and several of my stories have been set in the lakes. I shall look out for Julie’s book.

    Go Dad!! Xxxx
